Computer malfunction at Dutch defense ministry shuts down services nationwide

An IT disruption at the Dutch Ministry of Defense has brought down several government services across the country, including emergency responders.
The cause of the disruption, which began Tuesday evening at about 10:30 p.m., is still unclear. The outage has affected numerous organizations and services such as Eindhoven Airport, the civilian part of the Eindhoven military airbase.
Both the Coast Guard and the Marechaussee — the national police force — said they were facing technical problems that rendered their services nearly inaccessible. The Marechausee is responsible for passport controls at airports and seaports.
“There were disruptions to one of the networks,” a defense ministry spokesperson told POLITICO. “And the network is connected to other ministries, but at this stage, it’s too early to speculate whether those disruptions are connected to the ministry.”
The Dutch National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) wrote on X that several users of the data center and their services had been affected, preventing it from being able to send out security alerts.
